General Practice Registrar
2010/11

Doctors wishing to enter general
practice are required to work as a
Registrar for a period of one year.
This follows several years of
hospital experience and our
Registrars are fully qualified. This
practice is approved for Registrar
training and it is usual for us to
have a Registrar working with us.
During this year the Registrar will
video record some of his/her
consultations to help the doctor
improve the way he/she consults.
This video is only of the patient
and the doctor talking together.
Intimate examinations will not be
recorded and the camera will be
switched off at any time the patient
requests. All video recordings are
carried out according to guidelines
issued by the General Medical
Council. It will only be used to
assess the doctor.
The tape will be securely stored and
is subject to the same degree of
confidentiality as medical records.
The tape will be erased as soon as
practicable and in any event within
three years. The security and
confidentiality of the video are the
responsibility of the doctor.
Patients will be informed at the
time of booking their appointment
that videotaping is planned for that
surgery. On arrival for the
appointment a signed consent form is
required before the videotaping can
take place.
